The Sounds of Taurus Season

Much like José from The Enchanted Tiki Room’s siestas are getting shorter and shorter, these playlists are getting longer and longer.

Length is fitting for Taurus season, though. The first blush of spring, earth waking up. Luxuriating. Languid. Ruled by Venus, it’s easily the most sensual of the Earth signs—in every sense of the word.

I don’t remember where I heard or read this, but someone once likened Taurus to the story of Ferdinand the Bull, who would rather sit and smell flowers than fight in the ring. This is Peak Taurus. It’s also incredibly fitting that both 4.20 and Earth Day fall at the beginning of Taurus season every year.

Taurus is grounded to the point of stubbornness, but they also delight in this groundedness, in the pleasures this earthly experience provides. Taurus finds luxury in everything from a lovely afternoon nap to, well, literal luxury items.

Like the bull, Taurus is loyal and hardworking. Think of Taurus Lily Allen literally writing the song “Alfie” so that her brother would get a job. (The job Alfie, a Virgo, went out and got? The role of Theon Greyjoy on Game of Thrones.) Or Lizzo working steadily for years, literally living in her car, before finally becoming an “overnight” sensation. That’s Taurus energy.

Yes, this one is long, but listen to in order if you can; I always carefully consider the transitions. The Taurus Season playlist sort of features an “act one” and “act two” with the 1812 Overture serving as intermission. Oh, and one fun liner note: when choosing a Grace Jones song, I had to go with her cover of Nightclubbing, originally by fellow Taurus Iggy Pop.

Enjoy.
